Pre-conference workshop 1
Let's talk about sex: gender differences in epidemiological research
VvE Junior Epidemiologists working group
Participants: minimum of 10 and maximum of 30 participants
Organisation: Eline van Roekel en Tessel Galesloot (VvE werkgroep Junior Epidemiologen)
People differ from each other on many aspects. One of the most important factors is sex (biological differences) or gender (social construct). Until now, research has focused mainly on men and we know little about differences between men and women with regard to health, prevention and treatment. Do these differences exist? Are these differences large? And what are the best ways to investigate these differences within our epidemiological research? During this pre-conference, epidemiologists with experience on the topic and a representative of a funding organization will share their experience and vision with regard to this topic. There will also be time to interactively discuss the topic in light of your own research now and in the future. The pre-conference will end with drinks, where you will be able to network with your fellow junior epidemiologists and the speakers of the pre-conference.
We welcome all junior epidemiologists (master students, PhD candidates, postdocs and everyone who feels like a junior epidemiologist) to come to this pre-conference!
Pre-conference workshop 2
Teaching EPI, get inspired!
Core Group Education
Participants: minimum of 6 and maximum of 30 participants
Organisation: Iris van Rooij and Femmie de Vegt, also on behalf of the ‘VvE Speergroep Onderwijs’
This pre-conference is all about developing and conducting inspiring epidemiological teaching and it will be a very interactive session. All epidemiologists being active in teaching are more than welcome to brainstorm and discuss about this issue!
In the first part of the afternoon we will deal with topics that participants can suggest themselves. Possible topics are:
- Activating methods in EPI classroom teaching
- Examination in EPI teaching
- Requirements and contents of EPI internships
The participants will receive a digital questionnaire beforehand to inquire about preferred topics. In an open space setting the selected topics will be discussed.
In the second part of the afternoon the topic is ‘online and digital epidemiological teaching’. We will provide a short overview of the possibilities, after which we will discuss them and exchange experiences with each other.
So get inspired in EPI teaching during this pre-conference and meet your teaching colleagues!
Language: Depending on the participants the language of the pre-conference will be Dutch or English.
